2021's impressive start continues with its first major quake, (mag 6 or higher) outside The Pacific Ring Of Fire with a powerful shallow magnitude 6.7 - 33 km SSW of Turt, Mongolia. According to USGS a low chance of fatalities and damage to buildings are expected in the low populated area, however, the area is being rocked by strong aftershocks. The reported mag 6.8 quake was reduced to a mag 6.7 by USGS. This morning's quake was the 8th major quake of January and of course 2021.
A mag 6.1 quake struck the North West coast of Japan this morning but was also reduced to a 5.9 quake by USGS.
2021 has also seen an impressive uptick with volcanic activity around the world, there are currently, 23 volcanoes erupting with 17 of them in or around The Pacific Ring Of Fire with a further 10 showing activity around the world see map below.
