An interesting situation is developing in the Banda Sea just North of the small Rumadai Island. A mag 7.1 quake, reduced to a 7.0 by USGS has been reported in the Banda Sea, Indonesia. Two large aftershocks, a 6.9, reduced to a mag 6.7, followed by another 6.7 have been reported along with 5 other med-sized aftershocks.
The major quakes, (mag 6 or higher) are very shallow, 10km in depth, however, no tsunami warning has been announced.
Today's three major quakes, (mag 6 or higher) bring the total for the month of November to 4, all in the Banda Sea area shown above. The total so far in 2023 is an average of 126.
Get out! Another depth at 10km!?? Something is up with that. How can so many quakes be at exactly the same depths, always 10km!? Really weird! Thanks for the info Gary!
