Two massive quakes have rocked the South Sandwich Islands, just seconds apart, off the east coast of Argentina yesterday. According to the USGS, a mag 8.1, the second biggest quake of the year followed a mag 7.5 quake just a few seconds earlier, 3 major quakes, mag 6 or higher hit the area earlier. The area continues to be rocked by after shocks.

Yesterday's major quakes, mag 6 or higher, bring the August total to 7 and the year total to 97.
