We are still waiting for the "BIG ONE!" With an incredible 200 aftershocks above mag 4.0 in the first week of March, along with the world's largest quake this year, a magnitude 8.1 off the Kermadec Islands four days ago and mag 7.4 foreshock two hours earlier, we are still waiting for the big one. Just today the Kermadec area has recorded 16 aftershocks all above the mag 4 range and most of them were mag 5+. A mag 4.9 aftershock was reported off North of Gisborne, Northern New Zealand this morning. In the first 67 days of 2021, the eastern margin of the Australia plate which is dominating this year's seismic activity has recorded 900 quakes above mag 4 and 27 of them have been mag 6 or higher which is quite incredible.
