A mag 6.4 - 50km WNW of Fais, Micronesia is the second major quake to hit the island and the third major quake to strike in a matter of hours along the southern area of the Pacific ring of fire.
Earlier a magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck Micronesia, and a mag 6.2 - hit 74km northeast of L'Esperance Rock, New Zealand.
Today's quakes bring the total to 6 major quakes in a busy December and the year total to 107 which is easily the quietest year this century for major quakes.
We could be in for more major quakes in the coming couple of day's as a new coronal hole in the Sun's atmosphere turned towards Earth yesterday with the ejected solar wind expected to hit the Earth's magnetosphere sometime on Monday or Tuesday, see below.
