An autumn heat wave sent San Diego's temperature soaring to 87 degrees on Thursday, tying the record for the hottest Thanksgiving ever experienced at Lindbergh Field.
The temperature tied the Thanksgiving Daymark set on Nov. 24, 1932, back when San Diego had barely 150,000 people.
Today, the city is home to 1.4 million.
The National Weather Service had earlier said that San Diego fell one degree shy of the record. Thursday's holiday heat tied or broke records across the county.
Chula Vista hit 87, tying the record for Nov. 23, set in 1924.
El Cajon reached 93, (34 deg C), breaking the record of 86.
Escondido climbed to 92, breaking the record of 90.
Alpine hit 90, breaking the record of 86.
And Campo reached 91, breaking the record of 82.
The heat will begin to moderate on Friday. But San Diego will still be a couple of degrees above its seasonal average of 68 this weekend, and inland valleys and foothills will be 5 to 10 degrees above average.
Forecasters say significant Santa Ana winds might develop Tuesday.
And they're sticking by their belief that San Diego won't receive measurable rain during the entire month of November.
