After a high pressure dominated the UK bringing cold settled weather in January Britain is expected to be battered again with high winds rain and flooding by Wednesday as the huge Atlantic “Storm Doris” has the West-coast in its sights.
Experts have warned Britain to batten down the hatches for a “barrage of potent storms” to start hammering the country this week. Forecasters have sounded the alarm to brace for violent bouts of torrential rain and gales as the weather turns more unsettled.

The jet stream is sitting directly above the UK and Ireland and is pulling the massive storm towards the UK. Churning low pressure systems brewing in the Atlantic will be strengthened and steered towards the UK by an unusually powerful jet stream.
Weather charts show the band of wind which flows between five and 10 miles above the Earth’s surface widening and bending over the coming week.
“A dominating area of high pressure had been centred over central and western Europe during much of January, shielding the UK from any significant storm systems.
“There have been no named windstorms during the month of January.
Forecasters say as this ‘blocking’ pattern dissipates the flood gates will open to low pressure systems brewing off the west coast.
“However, this pattern change will likely yield multiple named storms during the month of February.”

These will be steered towards Britain by an unusually fierce jet stream which weather charts show is starting to sweep over the country see below.
